Inland Sea Productions is producing the program for the Bill of Rights Institute in conjunction with the Smithsonian Institution.

The content is overseen by an advisory board of the nation’s finest constitutional scholars, augmented by a committee of prominent Americans. The magnificent buildings, monuments, and memorials of Washington DC, archival paintings and photographs from America’s great museums, and reenactments of key events in Philadelphia, Boston, Mt. Vernon, and other historic locations come alive as major movie actors deliver the immortal words of  Washington, Madison, Jefferson, and other founders of our nation. The film climaxes with a concise overview of subsequent American History as it has been guided by the Founding Documents. Archival footage is enhanced in surround sound by a score that pays tribute to America’s greatest composers, making the film a riveting and majestic introduction to our country’s cherished ideals, one that study after study demonstrates is badly needed by a significant majority of Americans – of all ages.

This “evergreen” film is being anticipated by Giant Screen theater managers in major markets nationwide, where millions of schoolchildren and general audiences will view it annually on those 60-foot-high screens. It will also be shown throughout the school years to millions more in standard movie theaters in scores of medium- and smaller-sized cities. It also will play multiple times daily for years to come at the Smithsonian’s IMAX theaters in Washington, DC, both on the National Mall and at National Air and Space Museum at Dulles. Social Studies and History teachers throughout the country will be able to use the DVD version in their Civics and American History classes, where many studies have shown that basic knowledge of our freedoms and responsibilities has all but disappeared. Irrespective of the venue, the program will galvanize an audience’s understanding of our Founding Documents and their appreciation of our precious constitutional freedoms.

Aimée Guignon Larrabee and John Altman, co-producers/directors of acclaimed IMAX Signature Films Kansas City Presents and Celebrate Detroit, also brought to national PBS the Emmy-nominated documentary, Last Stand of the Tallgrass Prairie.

We the People is a comprehensive educational program that explores American Democracy through the ideals and tenets of the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. Its centerpiece is a 40-minute film that will play regularly to educational and general audiences for years to come in scores of Giant Screen theaters and hundreds of standard movie theaters across the country.

Equally important are the companion-based formal and informal educational materials, including a multi-tiered DVD version, print materials, and websites aimed at providing this knowledge – crucial for good citizenship – to thousands of our nation’s classrooms.
